Noise/Acoustical Consultant

Ramboll is looking for experienced candidates for full-time Noise/Acoustical Consultant positions located in the United States and/or Canada.  Candidates in the Pacific Northwest, California, or on the East Coast would be most desirable. The Noise/Acoustical Consultant will be working in a challenging and variable environment that will include detail-oriented independent work and client interactions.

Job Duties:

  • Capturing and analyzing noise measurement data (ambient, compliance, and source) using Ramboll field equipment
  • Conducting field work in a range of environments from busy urban areas to remote locations
  • Estimating sound levels of various types of sources (e.g., industrial, transportation)
  • Conducting computer modeling of noise levels at a distance using CadnaA, SoundPlan, or similar
  • Modeling traffic sound levels using the FHWA Traffic Noise Model (TNM)
  • Quantifying the effectiveness of noise mitigation, including barriers
  • Estimating sound levels from sources using tools such as the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) spreadsheet, FHWA Roadway Noise Construction Model (RCNM), or other spreadsheet or calculation tools
  • Critically reviewing and interpreting local, state, provincial, and federal environmental regulations
  • Preparing reports and communicating results to clients
  • Managing projects and client relationships

Required Skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Solid spreadsheet, noise modeling, and software tool skills
  • Demonstrated capabilities in understanding and applying environmental regulations to real-world situations
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well independently and at remote job sites
  • Ability to work well with a team

Education and Experience

  • B.S. or M.S. in an Engineering, Science, or Mathematics related major
  • 5 to 8 years of experience conducting environmental noise assessments

Helpful Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience in Building Acoustics
  • Experience in airport noise modeling using AEDT
  • Experience in underwater noise measurement and/or modeling
